Story & Questions: Receive Criticism

Featuring: Elena Vasquez

The way you receive feedback says more about you than the feedback itself. Learn the Listen → Clarify → Thank → Act framework to stay open, extract what is useful, and walk away stronger.

Scenario Backstory

Receiving criticism is one of the hardest things to do well at work. Your brain perceives it as a threat and your instinct is to defend, explain, or counter-attack. But the person who can receive feedback without defensiveness is the person who grows fastest and earns the most trust. The coach has given and received enough feedback to know what works. The framework is Listen → Clarify → Thank → Act. Listen fully without interrupting. Clarify with one or two questions. Thank them genuinely - not for the criticism, but for the honesty. Then state one specific thing you will do differently. In this session the coach delivers feedback ranging from constructive to harsh and unfair. You practice staying open when every instinct says to close.
