Story & Questions: Say No to Extra Work

Saying no at work feels risky. You want to be seen as reliable, capable, and generous with your time. But the person who says yes to everything is not reliable - they are a bottleneck, a burnout risk, and someone who eventually underdelivers on the thing that actually mattered. The coach has managed enough people to know that the most trusted team members are not the ones who never say no. They are the ones who say no with clarity, warmth, and a real alternative. The framework is Appreciate → Explain → Offer. Thank them for the trust, explain your current commitments specifically, and offer a realistic path forward. In this session the coach will roleplay a persistent colleague, a senior leader with an urgent request, and a manager who keeps pushing. You will practice holding your boundary without damaging the relationship.
