Story & Questions: Disagree with a Manager

Featuring: Elena Vasquez

Respectful disagreement is a leadership skill. Learn the Align → Divergence → Evidence → Alternative framework to hold your position without undermining theirs - and be the person whose pushback is welcomed.

Scenario Backstory

Disagreeing with your manager is one of the highest-stakes conversations you can have at work. Done poorly, it damages your reputation. Done well, it builds it - because the person who can disagree constructively demonstrates independent thinking, courage, and commitment to the outcome over their ego. The coach has been the manager receiving pushback and the person delivering it. The framework is Align → Divergence → Evidence → Alternative. Start with what you agree on, state where you see things differently, back it with facts, and offer another path. In this session the coach roleplays a manager who has already decided, a manager who feels challenged, and a manager who dismisses the concern outright.
